E o homem criou um deserto no Cerrado
Uma viagem a Gibués, epicentro da desertificação no país, onde a pecuária extensiva e a agricultura esgotaram a capacidade do solo e seu poder de renovação
The shadow of farmer João Tavares Rodrigues riding his horse reflects over the desertified land. Gilbués, PiauÃ, Brazil. 14 September 2019. The areas susceptible to desertification in Brazil occupy about 1,340,000 km2 and directly reach 30 million people. Of this total, 180 thousand square kilometers are already in a serious and very serious process of desertification, concentrated mainly in the Northeast states, which have 55.25% of their territory affected in different degrees of environmental deterioration. The process of natural and anthropogenic causes, land degradation and desertification bring with it dramatic consequences and, in many cases, difficult to recover, generating very high social, economic and environmental costs.
